Rolling Tide: Bama takes title

by Griffin H.

“It’s a mauling folks, a mauling” said a commentator last night at the BCS national championship. The rematch, all the hype, and it turned out to be a shut-out. 21-0 was the final score. Here are some facts of dominance:

  • LSU was held to 92 total yards
  • They only crossed midfield once
  • They were shut-out for the first time since 2002 (against Alabama)

Impressive, true dominance from what some call one of the greatest defenses of all time. Alabama showed up in the game that mattered, and scored the only touchdown between the two teams in both of their meetings (LSU won 9-6 in OT).

It creates chaos in the BCS, something good for playoff advocates such as myself. And I suppose Alabama can add #14 to their so-called “national championships” even if 8 of them were some dude in his basement that had his own poll. Nick Saban has now won 3 national championships, all in the BCS era. One with LSU, two with Alabama. And the SEC won 6 in a row, the state of Alabama: 3 (Alabama, Auburn, Alabama). Can the SEC make it 7? I think they can.

Stokes Cleared: Freshman Jarnell Stokes practiced yesterday after he was cleared by the SEC. Cuonzo Martin says he’s not sure if Stokes will play against Mississippi State on Thursday.

No, I don’t. Not against Mississippi State, at least. Perhaps he could play a couple minutes, but I think a home game against Kentucky on Saturday is more likely. If he’s half as good as people say he is, h will be a monster in the SEC.
